Pata Gauntlet Sword
South India, 17th centuryIndo-Persian arms
Ref.Price on application
From my private collection. A very rare and good South Indian pata sword. Probably Tanjore. The hooded guard is secured to the side bars by means of a mythical creatures arms and legs. Two large ball grips pinned to the side bars. The blade measures 77cm and is sandwiched between two long langets. The steel blade is long and features a raised central ridge ending in a swollen tip. Smooth age patina and exceptionally good condition considering its age.
