The famous kard dagger is a well-sought-after item amongst antique arms collectors. It reflects status because of its high craftsmanship combined with precious materials. Presented here is a nice Qajar kard dagger from the late 18th or early 19th century. Straight, single-edged blade of high-contrasting Damascus (wootz) steel, the ricasso nicely engraved with a fleur-de-lis and gold-inlaid edges, the decoration continuing onto the guard. The flat spine with a central ridge culminates in a fleur-de-lis cartouche engraved with a scroll frieze continued on the tang of the handle, flanked by two riveted walrus ivory slabs.
Length: 35.8 cm
Condition: Age wear and some restorations on the handle. Some of the inlay-gold is missing.
No scabbard.
