Ceremonial 'Tabar' axe
A North Indian axe or 'Tabar', 'Tabarzin', from the second half of the 19th century. This type with inward crawling tips and lily shaped back is often encountered and ussualy associated with ceremonial use. The blade is chiseled by oposing elephants. The axe base shows inscriptions in devanagari on both sides. Fancy specimens where made in Gujarat and hold a concealed dagger in the butt. Telling from its construction this example is not purely ceremonial. The axe's shaft is reinforced with a metal strip, held in place by four iron pins with brass washers.
