This is a heavy 19th century Afghan jezail. Most likely linked to one of the Pashtun tribe. The damascened barrel of twisted iron is signed at the breech by its maker. (see pictures) Both muzzle and breech are decorated with gold inlay work. The stock and lock are of English manufacture, locally 'branded' and more recent than the barrel. This item most have belonged to a person of some ranking. The quality and elegance of the barrel stands in high contrast to the rest of the gun. Included in the sale are the papers that suggest it comes from the Museum of Kabul.
