An Indian elephant goad from the late 19th to early 20th century. Made entirely of steel, the head with double-edged spike of flattened diamond section, curved hook formed as a makara and balanced by a brass elephant in the round, an incised flower-head on each side between, and tapering haft of slender segmented bars containing metal jingling bells, and domed terminal encircled by keyhole piercings and with button finial. Condition is very good. 58,7 cm. overall.
