matchlock Padri musket
around 1800s
With heavy octagonal barrel (some pitting overall), iron pan with pivoting brass cover and cast foliate lever, characteristic flat brass lock with shaped foliate finials, serpentine with cast and engraved foliate decoration and acting against an external mainspring. Hardwood full stock with club-shaped butt. Flat along the back and set with an engraved brass mount (small top section of brass butt-plate missing), brass trigger-guard and trigger-plate with lock, the former retained by a screw with large cast brass head. 148 cm barrel
