Persian Khula Khud
early 19th century
A Persian Khula Khud helmet. Early 19th century. Hemispherical, iron skull with embossed chevron decorations which follow the drawing at the base creating concentric four-pointed stars. Cusp of square section with roundish knot, featuring remains of gilding. This piece shows excellent craftsmanship. At the front the sliding nose guard with a later release screw. This helmet didn't have plume-holders. Two were added later but have been removed because they were asymetrically fitted. The top spike is also probably of a later date. An old lead repair inside the bowl, remains of blueing. Fitted with a short mail neck defence of simple closed, iron rings. A rare version of the khula khud with a beautiful age patina.
Dome measures 19,5cm across the base.
Height circa 30cm, 850 grams.
