A Persian kard, probably of Turkmen origin. A sharp tapering blade of watered steel, encrusted with gold bilateral inscriptions of the maker and owner including the date 1121 AH (circa 1709). The translation reads 'made by Mohhamd Hoeseyn', owner 'Mohhamd Ebrahim'. Robust tapering grip encased in punched gilt metal decorated beadwork and divided by silver bands. Both scabbard and grip are probably 19th century work. Very good condition with a dent to the pommel and a restoration to the chape. 24 cm blade.
