wootz khanjar dagger

Qajar period, around 1840




A Persian khanjar dagger. The curved blade is forged from fine wootz steel and has a central rib. Koftgari flower tendrils at the base. The solid walrus ivory handle is carved in typical Qajar style with a nude figure (slave?, prisoner?) on one side and a guard (?) on the reverse. Arabic inscriptions in square kufic script. Small spots to blade and lightly dented tip. Uncleaned condition. No scabbard. 209 grams.
